Florence Nightingale Graham was born in Woodbridge, Ontario, in 1878. She worked for a pharmaceutical company as a bookkeeper and developed a passion for skin care. In 1910, she opened the original Red Door salon in New York with more to follow across the USA and in Europe. The brand soon became known as Elizabeth Arden, the name its founder went by. Originally a cosmetic and skin care company, the label launched its first fragrance in 1936.
